Queensland’s tourism industry has made the strongest recovery in the nation following the pandemic, new figures show.

Domestic visitor spending has reached a new record of $24.5 billion in the last 12 months.

Hotspots like the Sunshine Coast, Whitsundays and the Fraser Coast have seen record-breaking visitation.

Queensland Tourism Industry Council boss Brett Fraser told Jason Dasey on 4BC Summer Drive the numbers have been largely driven by domestic travel.

“We’ve had a good last 12 months, there’s no question about that,” he said.

“We’ve been asking people for a while now to get out and explore their own backyards, travel around Queensland, and people have responded and done so.”
