Queensland has today recorded six new cases of COVID-19 on the Gold Coast, with authorities warning this is the day they’ve been planning for.

Health Minister Yvette D’Ath said it’s likely there’s been community transmission of COVID-19, with some of the cases infectious in the community for up to a week.

“This is what we are planning for, we said there would be cases.”

4BC Drive host Scott Emerson said it was time for calm.

“How Queensland reacts is what is now important, what shouldn’t happen is, we panic,” he said.

“Let’s not forget we are, statewide, 80 percent fully vaccinated so we are in a much better position than we would have been six months ago.

“So far the Palaszczuk Government seems to be responding well … given the comments today from the Health Minister Yvette D’Ath and the Acting CHO.

“Today is a taste of what is to come – no doubt there will be more cases and more areas affected by COVID after Monday.

“What’s important is that the Palaszczuk government – and the new CHO John Gerrard who starts in the job Monday – remain alert, not alarmed and not revert to the politics of panic.”
