Hospitals set up makeshift waiting rooms to prepare for influx of patients

4BC News

A Gold Coast hospital car park has been turned into a makeshift waiting room.

Tents have been set up in the car park of the Gold Coast University Hospital for the overflow of patients with COVID.

At Robina Hospital, there is a dedicated emergency department area and a second temporary structure will be built outside the emergency department entrance to expand the waiting room.

Chief Health Officer Dr John Gerrard has warned the number of people in hospital with COVID is expected to rise in the coming weeks.

To ease congestion, visitor limits have been put in place.

Patients in general wards are now limited to two visitors and just one in emergency departments.
