Home care equipment sales soar as families ditch aged care in droves

Sofie Formica

An uptick in sales for at-home care products is being recorded in Australia as families turn away from traditional care homes.

In the last year, a rap sheet of issues including COVID-19 outbreaks and striking workers has plagued the sector.

Solace Sleep has reported a 3000 per cent rise in mechanical bed sales, which the company attributes to rising interest in at-home care options.

Darren Nelson, a bed and sleep expert for the company, told Sofie Formica at-home care is appealing to many as an option that’s “a lot more personalised”.

“It allows them to be independent, it allows them to manage their own care,” he said.

“It’s that flexibility and that, for lack of a better word, control of your own destiny.”
