From humble beginnings as a 15-year-old lunch runner at 2CH in 1948, Ron Camplin has gone on to become one of the most loved and respected men in Australian radio.

This year marks 70 memorable years in radio for Ron.

“70 years doesn’t seem to be that long once you’re there,” Ron tells Ray Hadley as he looks back on where it all began.

From that first office boy job in Sydney, it wasn’t long before Ron moved to 2XL in Cooma to land his for announcer role at 19 years of age.

He then moved to 2MG at Mudgee and worked his way up to manager at the young age of 22, ultimately buying the station three years later.

Ron launched his company Camplin Broadcasters in 1969 and went on to buy and run 2BS with his wife Stephanie in 1984.

He was awarded an OAM for services to the Commercial Broadcasting industry and the local community in 1995.

He went on to become a member of the Commercial Radio Australia Hall of Fame in 2002.

“He’s forgotten more than most know about the industry” says Ray reflecting on Ron’s great standing in radio.

“You’ve supplied me with a great quantity of young staff over the years including Stephanie Borys… Latika Bourke… names that are very familiar to my listeners, the late Ken Sparkes”, Ray tells Ron.
