Emergency services remain at the scene of a helicopter crash in the Western Downs region, which has left the pilot in a critical condition.

The man in his 20s was mustering cattle this morning, when he struck a powerline causing the chopper to crash on a property at Grosmont.

The man, who was the sole occupant, was airlifted to hospital with significant injuries.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.
