The state government says it will not move forward the introduction of new health restrictions on the unvaccinated.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk yesterday announced Queensland’s borders will be reopened to fully vaccinated travellers from interstate hotspots four days early.

The ease of restrictions was initially slated for December 17, alongside a lockout of people who haven’t been vaccinated against COVID-19 from hospitality venues and events.

Health Minister Yvette D’Ath told Spencer Howson she isn’t concerned about plugging the hole.

Spencer Howson: “Why not move the unvaccinated restrictions forward as well, because aren’t you creating a four-day window when COVID and the unvaccinated will be mingling?”

Yvette D’Ath: “Well, unvaccinated people are mingling now -”

Spencer Howson: “But the border’s not opening until Monday.”

Yvette D’Ath: “But when we open the borders, it’s only fully vaccinated people who are allowed to come and not quarantine.

“That gives us a level of protection.”
