Parents are being urged to get their kids vaccinated in Queensland, with the state recording 8,881 new cases today.

It’s the highest daily figure since the start of February.

There are also concerns the virus is spreading through schools, with infections increasing by 55 per cent over the last week.

Health Minister Yvette D’ath is urging parents to consider getting their child vaccinated against COVID-19.

“Our 5-11 year olds vaccination rates are only at 43.15 per cent, we need these rates to be higher,” she said.

“We are seeing with BA.2 that it’s more of the young people getting this, right from primary age up to 30-year-olds and it is highly contagious.”
