Australia Day, January 26, is the day to reflect on what it means to be Australian, to celebrate contemporary Australia and to acknowledge our history.

The natural beauty, a fair go for all, lifestyle, democracy and particularly our people.

Millions of Aussies flock to events all over the country to show pride in this nation.

Steve Price runs through a list of the top events happening in Sydney, Brisbane and Canberra.

Brisbane events:

  • Brisbane Lord Mayor Graham Quirk is set to officiate the largest citizenship ceremony in the country, with 600 people set to become new Australians.
  • Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk will be in Townsville to attend the annual flag-raising ceremony.
  • Brisbane will also see the annual cockroach races at the Story Bridge Hotel, which has been running since 1982.
