The parents of Hannah Clarke have opened up about starting the Small Steps 4 Hannah foundation after being nominated for Queensland’s Australian of the Year.

Hannah and her three children were fatally burned in a petrol fire in her car by her estranged husband last year.

Sue and Lloyd Clarke say while they think about Hannah every day, they are putting their energy toward reducing the prevalence of domestic violence.

“We don’t feel we’ve done anything, we’ve just wanted to start a conversation to help other women and children and hopefully keep them safe,” Sue told Neil Breen.

“I felt like I didn’t do enough to help Hannah and the kids to start with,” Lloyd added.

“For some reason, I don’t know, it just popped in our head – ‘Let’s start a foundation, let’s educate people about coercive control’.

“Because we didn’t know about it, a lot of other people didn’t know about it.”
