Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner has outlined the Brisbane City Council’s hopes for the future of the Queensland Maritime Museum, calling it a great asset for the city.

4BC listener Mark asked about plans for the museum, which has fought off financial woes to remain open.

The Lord Mayor says there’s a great deal of history there.

“We’ve had a position very clearly that the maritime museum is a great asset for the city, and the state,” he told Bill McDonald, filling in on 4BC Drive.

“We’d like to see it taken over by the Queensland Museum effectively and become part of the network of museums that we have in the state.

“Having said that, there is a need to do some things there to make that museum more viable financially.”
