Grant Denyer has taken out the Gold Logie, at the television awards on the Gold Coast.

The game show host was also named most popular presenter.

Denyer beat out favourite Tracy Grimshaw as well as Amanda Keller, Jessica Marais, Rodger Corser and Andrew Winter.

The decision came as a shock as Denyer’s show Family Feud has been axed by Channel 10.

The diminutive host took a shot at network executives while claiming his first award but delivered an emotional speech while accepting the top gong.

“Family Feud came along for me and my life at a time when I really wasn’t quite sure if I’d ever work again or if I even wanted to.

I wasn’t particularly in a very good place, I wasn’t very well, I was in a hole.

And Family Feud gave me a ladder out of that hole.

So Family Feud, thank you so much, you saved me.”
