Government responds to bombshell Coaldrake report
Queensland’s Attorney-General says the Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk wants the strongest integrity mechanisms in place in the wake of Professor’s Peter Coaldrake landmark report.
The Let The Sunshine In review has revealed a number of issues within government, and 14 recommendations have also been made.
Attorney-General Shannon Fentiman said the government will accept the recommendations.
She said the premier wanted “strong, visionary, bold” recommendations.
“We want to have the strongest integrity mechanisms, Professor Coaldrake has said we have some the strongest laws and integrity bodies in the country, but they do need a bit of a refresh and they do need to be strengthened,” she told Spencer Howson.
Asked about the report noting an “acceptance of bullying” and public servants fearing they might lose jobs if they didn’t aid the public agenda of the government, Ms Fentiman said she didn’t know it was happening.
“I didn’t know that was happening … like any review that you have like this, you learn things and we have said it’s unacceptable,” she said.
“We don’t want a culture of bullying … that’s why we are going to accept these recommendations lock, stock and barrel to make sure there is a great culture of transparency and accountability.”
