Government reportedly considering tax on coal and gas industry

There’s talk the Albanese government could bring in a controversial new tax on the gas and coal industry before the year is out in a bid to rein in rising power bills.
The measure would target gas and coal profits and use the money made from the tax to ease household and business energy costs.
CEO of the Minerals Council of Australia, Tania Constable, said the government haven’t detailed what their plan was.
“You don’t tax your way out of a problem. It really would have perverse outcomes that exacerbate the problem even more,” she told Neil Breen.
