Government faces pushback to controversial IR bill

neil breen

The Albanese government is facing opposition to its industrial relations bill, with Independent senators demanding more time to go through the contentious aspects to the proposed legislation.

Federal political editor Michael Pachi said one issue was the multi-employer bargaining.

“Where we are at at the moment is they have been introduced into the parliament, and they are being debated as we speak in the House, they’ve got to move into the Senate before anything can actually happen and they actually pass,” he told Neil Breen.

“What Labor wants to do … they want these laws passed before Christmas.”

But the government is facing pushback from a number of Independents, including David Pocock, who want the legislation to be split.
