Government commits to two new power stations to keep prices down

The federal government has announced two new gas-fired power stations will be built to sure up energy supplies on the east coast.

The new generators will be built in south-eastern Queensland and Victoria and will be underwritten by the federal government.

The stations will supplement existing generators by adding to the network at times of peak demand.

Energy Minister Angus Taylor tells John Stanley it will help keep power bills down.

“We’d always like them to come down faster, John, but there’s no doubt that we’re now seeing real gains happening.

“We’ve announced a number of new power stations in recent months and these two news ones today will bring more supply into the market.”
