Google is being accused of using customers’ data allowances to collect information to then sell targeted advertising.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission is looking into allegations the company is draining about a gigabyte of people’s mobile data each month to harvest those details.

The Centre for Internet Safety’s Nigel Phair tells Ross Greenwood it’s about having the most targetted form of ads.

“These US companies… they keep monetising you as a user and all the listeners out there and it’s all through targeted advertising.”
