There are fresh warnings from the state government as COVID-19 cases and flu cases spike as winter sets in.

25 people have lost their lives to the flu this year.

In Queensland, there are 121 people who have the flu, and 5 people are in ICU.

There are 516 patients in public hospitals with COVID-19.

Health Minister Yvette D’ath says she is concerned that Queensland is experiencing a higher peak than the second wave of COVID-19.

“We are seeing a lot of people coming back into our hospitals with COVID,” she told Peter Fegan, filling in on 4BC Drive.

She said she was concerned about the rise on COVID-19 cases.

“When you combine Influenza A which we haven’t seen in this state for almost 5 years, and these new variants of COVID, I cannot emphasise enough the importance of getting vaccinated for both.”
