Four teens in custody after reports of shots fired at Tara

Neil Breen

Four teens have been arrested at Tara on the Western Downs following a shooting that shut parts of the town down.

Police were called to the scene on reports of shots fired around 3.30pm yesterday afternoon and several residents were evacuated soon after.

9News reporter Lily Greer joins Neil Breen with the latest.

Specialist police and PolAir were called in, with investigators establishing a civilian vehicle had been shot at.

Following an extensive investigation, four boys, aged between 14 and 16, were taken into custody later that evening.

The incident comes just a month after two police officers and a neighbour were gunned down in the nearby town of Wieambilla.

9News reporter Lily Greer said police haven’t indicated that the shootings are associated in any way.

“Still, the feeling around town, it’s bringing back a lot of memories from December,” she told Laurel, Gary & Mark.
