Floodwater warnings renewed as state records death near Toowoomba

Gary Hardgrave

A man has died in floodwaters near Toowoomba after the region was struck by heavy rain.

Police say he became stuck in a ute at Kingsthorpe with five dogs, all of which drowned.

A woman was rescued and has been taken to hospital in a stable condition.

It comes after an emergency flood alert was issued for Dalby.

QFES Commander of State Operation Cheryl-Lee Fitzgerald told Neil Breen swift water rescue teams responded to four calls for help overnight.

“Flash flooding is going to remain a major concern for us, I mean, our catchments are already saturated.

“But look: our fire and rescue swift water crews and SES … remain ready to assist.”
