Flood-related bonus lures ’embarrassing’ numbers of interstate tradies

The Queensland government’s plan to lure tradespeople from around Australia to help in the flood recovery efforts after the February disaster has attracted just 12 tradies.
The Palaszczuk Government wanted 1000 tradies to sign up to the Tradies in Paradise scheme.
Around 860 tradies expressed interest.
To be eligible, they have to relocate themselves to Queensland, for 8 weeks of flood-related work, to get a $1750 in cash.
Neil Breen said it was “embarrassing”.
“Guess how many have got the $1750? It was 12,” Neil said.
“Not even a football team bothered to do it.”
