After three years, Te Maire Martin will make his long-awaited NRL return.

He was named as fullback for the Broncos on Friday night.

In an exclusive interview on 4BC Radio, he told Peter Psaltis on Wide World of Sports he is incredibly grateful for the opportunity.

He recalled how his last game was against the Bulldogs, who he will face again this weekend.

At the time, after chronic headaches it was discovered he had a bleed on the brain, and he rested and went back to New Zealand.

“The club was really good, I felt like I was letting them down sort of carrying it on … so I come to the conclusion, me and my manager, to finish up at the time, I couldn’t tell the club when I would be ready to play.”

Martin felt like he wasn’t able to play at his best, and couldn’t give any club a definitive answer so he decided to call time on his career.

He also revealed what he’s missed about the NRL, including the team environment and camaraderie.

Despite missing a few weeks of pre-season, he says he’s put in a lot of hard work since January and he’s feeling good.

“I’m really excited to play a home game at Suncorp I’ev heard good things about it, and how much the crowd gets behind it.”
