Federal Labor’s election promise to Brisbane residents fed up with aircraft noise

A community group of locals frustrated by flight noise from Brisbane Airport have welcomed a pledge by federal Labor for a permanent forum to monitor the issue, if they win in May.
The forum will also review runway usage.
Aircraft noise has been a huge issues for residents in numerous Brisbane’s suburbs.
Chairman of the Brisbane’s Flight Path Community Alliance, David Diamond, says it was a positive step but there’s a way to go.
“That’s one of the demands or requests we’ve been making as a group that we think that the temporary forum that has been put in, we certainly feel there has been a lot more action since we have had someone to talk to,” he told Scott Emerson.
“We think it should be permanent, we think there’s a role for it to be played, so that’s another win.”
He says in the past month, it’s gotten worse, with the bigger aircraft making the “decibels going off the roof, literally” for many.
The group predicts it will be “horrendous” when more international flights come back on board and they are pushing for a long-term plan for the airport.
