While Treasurer Josh Frydenberg tries to steer the election campaign around the positive forecast for Australia’s economic recovery, Labor says the government is taxing Australians “significantly more” than when they were in office.

Shadow Treasurer Jim Chalmers says Mr Frydenberg was trying to distract from his government’s own failures on RATs and supply chain issues.

Asked by 4BC Drive host Scott Emerson if Labor would introduce any new taxes if they win the election, Mr Chalmers said Labor would focus on multi national taxes to make them fairer.

Scott Emerson: “If Labor does get into power, are you ruling out any increase or new taxes under an Albanese government?”

Mr Chalmers: “We have said for some time Scott, that we wouldn’t be taking the same set of tax increases to the next election that we took the last election, we have made that really clear in areas like negative gearing, franking credits and the like.”
