There are reports up to five veterans have taken their own lives since ANZAC Day this year.

The Victorian Coroners Court has been told there are at least three confirmed suicides, but possibly up to five veterans have taken their lives since last week.

Wounded Heroes CEO Martin Shaw says Afghanistan veteran Bradley Carr took his life at the Gold Coast on ANZAC Day.

He tells Steve Price although the Department of Veterans’ Affairs paid for the funeral, he had to fundraise money to repatriate Bradley’s body to his family in Far North Queensland.

“Let me get this straight,” says Steve Price, “you have to go around with a begging bowl to get money to have his body transferred to his home town?”

“Yes, Steve, that’s basically correct.”
