‘Fantasyland’: Transport Minister shoots down Lord Mayor’s transport plan
The state’s Transport Minister has accused the Lord Mayor of living in “fantasyland” over a business case around public transport in Brisbane’s north-west.
Adrian Schrinner has put forward a 257-page proposal against the development of a transport corridor from Stafford to Aspley, in favour of a multi-billion-dollar tunnel from Kedron to Bald Hills.
It’s a case the state wasted no time knocking back, claiming it was put together “in total isolation”.
“The average person out there, who wants to see a better transport system, expects levels of government to be working closely together,” Minister Mark Bailey said.
“I don’t think people think that building big new tollways and big new motorways through the north-west is actually going to solve much at all.
“This is very much fantasyland sort of stuff. They didn’t involve us because they knew it just didn’t stack up.”
He argued Mr Schrinner is ignoring an “unprecedented level” of investment into the public transport system by the Palaszczuk government.
“There [are] huge amounts going into public transport. They basically called for bus priority on Gympie Road, … we’re already building it right now.”
