A Brisbane man has described the incredible rescue of a man from the Brisbane River who he says is lucky to be alive.

Matthew witnessed a houseboat crash into a ferry terminal at Kangaroo Point.

Police were tracking the houseboat as it was swept down the river due to the strong current.

“I was at the Howard Smith Wharves end … there were probably about 20-30 people rushing over to the ferry station,” he told Neil Breen.

He said it took them about 10 minutes to get to the man.

The local heroes were wearing Felons Berwry shirts, he said.

Police say the man in his 70’s was assessed by paramedics but luckily sustained no significant injuries.

The house boat was fully destroyed.
