Brisbane residents are urged to be wary of door-to-door scammers claiming to represent Energex in a bid to gain personal information or access to properties.

The electricity distributor says the scammers were operating in southern suburbs last week and trying various approaches to rip off residents.

Energex spokesperson Ruth Durrant told Luke Bradnam there’s been “quite a few incidents just in this past week alone”.

“We don’t ever cold call people on the phone and we certainly don’t ever just turn up at someone’s property unless you’ve rung us and said you’ve had a problem and we’re out to investigate,” she said.

“All the work we do is out on the street and also, we’re always really clearly identifiable.”
