A Queensland driving instructor has renewed his push for national laws enforcing ‘T Plates’ for tourists.

Stephen Lee wants to see tourists visiting Australia to display T plates on their vehicles in a bid to reduce crashes.

It comes after four South Korean backpackers died in crash after failing to give way to a semi-trailer on the New England Highway.

Mr Lee told Sofie Formica around six per cent of road fatalities in Australia involve overseas drivers.

“They do contribute toward these road crashes,” he said.

“So I would really like to see some change where these tourists have a bit more of an understanding of our road conditions.”
