Dr Karl explains what not to do in a thunderstorm

If there’s a lightning storm, don’t lie flat.

That’s the advice Dr Karl Kruszelnicki gave Warren Moore when asked what not to do when you’re stuck in a lightning storm.

“Do not run, do not lie down. Crouch into a ball and try to have your two feet as close together as possible. Don’t lie flat.

“You don’t want to lay flat because if the lightning bolt lands in line with your head or your feet you’re going to die.”

Dr Karl also had some advice if you find yourself in the water during a storm.

“We don’t have a lot of information on that but if you’re at the beach and a lightning storm comes along stay in the water with your head low.

“If you head to land you’ll be a higher target.”
