A wheelchair-bound Townsville woman has died after waiting more than two hours for an ambulance.

Queensland Ambulance Service has launched an internal investigation into the case and the review will be provided to the state coroner.

Shadow Minister for Fire and Emergency Services Dale Last told Mark Levy the ambulance service has been under resourced for some time.

“The ambulance service hasn’t grown in line with the community and they are now right under the pump in terms of resources.

“We’re seeing ambulance ramping at our hospitals, we’re seeing delayed responses and in this case, tragic consequences.

“The Minister needs to step up to the plate and actually do something to address it.”
