Defence could play key role in drought relief, says Barnaby Joyce

Article image for Defence could play key role in drought relief, says Barnaby Joyce

As the country’s east coast struggles with drought, the west is being drenched.

Perth has had its wettest August in 50 years.

The country’s new drought envoy, Barnaby Joyce, says moving grain from Western Australia will be important to helping farmers in the east.

The former deputy leader tells Alan Jones, Defence could have a partial role in that.

“Lots of places can load grains onto trains, but there’s only few places we can take grain off train, and so we have to move it to those central spots and from there we can allocate it around.”

He says government must support the transport of fodder.
