Defeated Liberals must ‘soul-search’ before 2025

Peter Dutton is firming up as the next opposition leader, as analysts say the Liberals must do some “soul-searching” after losing critical inner-city seats.

In Queensland, it’s being called a “green wave” with the Greens set to snare three inner Brisbane seats.

Federal political editor Michael Pachi said on 4BC Breakfast he was expecting a tighter race.

He said the Liberal party losses in NSW and Victoria were surprising.

“There’s going to be a real soul-searching within the Liberal Party to decide actually what it is they do stand for, it’s going to take a while to win some of these inner city seats to win any of them back.”

It’s expected Peter Dutton will put his hand up in the coming days to take over the leadership.

He says he wouldn’t surprised if Labor gets two terms in government.

“That is real conundrum for the LNP, they might be doing a lot better in the regions than they are in the cities, but they need those city seats back to have any hope or forming government three years from now.”
