The weekend is drawing to an end and feelings of anxiety and dread are creeping up. If this sounds familiar, you might be dealing with a case of the ‘Sunday Scaries’. 

It’s described as the moment when stress and apprehension about work, often associated with heavy workloads, time pressures or workplace conflict, start to bubble up.

Dr Adam Kay, a lecturer in management at the University of Queensland, told Laurel, Gary & Mark the ‘Sunday Scaries’ are “not necessarily a bad thing”.

“The human mind has evolved to allow us to survive perceived threats in the future,” he said.

“If you actually get the ‘Sunday Scaries’, it’s a sign that your mind is doing what it’s evolutionarily designed to do, which is prepare you for challenges coming in the future.”
