David Crisafulli: Premier dodging integrity questions shows ‘utter cover-up’

The Opposition Leader says the Premier’s defence over her government’s integrity scandal “doesn’t add up”.

Annastacia Palaszczuk claims she wasn’t aware of allegations raised by the outgoing Integrity Commissioner when she referred complaints to a powerful parliamentary committee.

Instead, the Premier says she was acting on the advice of the Solicitor-General when the referral was made, weeks after Dr Nikola Stepanov raised concerns over a laptop being seized from her office.

But Opposition Leader David Crisafulli told Neil Breen it smells of a cover-up.

“With all the inferno that was going on, the Premier wants Queenslanders to believe that no one in those senior levels told her,” he said.

“For a Premier to say she can’t say who brought the claims to her about Dr Stepanov, well, that’s a grey area, we’ll let her pass on that one.

“But then to not be able to reveal under what section of legislation she’s refusing to answer it, doesn’t that just show it’s a complete and utter cover-up?”

Mr Crisafulli vowed he won’t let the government ride the issue out.

“We’re not going to give up, we’re not going to go away,” he said. “Nothing short of a royal commission will cut it.”

Neil said the “red-hot” issue shouldn’t go overlooked by the public.

“It’s about keeping the public in the dark, it’s about our money, it’s about how it’s spent, it’s about who it goes to.

“And it reeks to high heaven.”
