Craig Gabriel: Why Serena Williams isn’t ‘retiring’

Dean & Sofie

The US Open may be the last Grand Slam Serena Williams ever plays but she’s adamant it’s not a retirement.

Williams announced her plans to move away from tennis in a first-person essay for Vogue earlier this month as she looks to expand her family.

But tennis correspondent Craig Gabriel told Laurel, Gary & Mark the star will still have a fair bit on her plate.

“She’s got her fashion line, all sorts of stuff, … she’s had Beyoncé do the voice-over for a video that she’s been involved in,” he said.

“Her daughter, Olympia, has been asking for a sister – not a brother, but a sister.

“There’s a lot of other aspects that are occupying her time, … [so] she doesn’t want to use the word retirement.”
