Queenslanders could expect to pay more on their energy bills, higher than other Australian states.

The rising cost of living continues to be the centrepiece of the federal election, with fuel prices, rising interest rates and soaring inflation.

Senior editor of money at Findr, Sarah Megginson, says there are some aspects of cost of living that are particularly an issue in Queensland.

“One of those areas is actually energy, energy bills in other states have actually gone down because they have been using renewable energy sources,” she told Scott Emerson.

“We are not doing that in Queensland, we are very reliant on coal powered energy here.

“The expectation is that across Australia we are going to see an 8 per cent increase in energy prices, but in Queensland it could be a little bit higher.”

She says the flood disaster has also put pressure on the rental market.
