Visitors will no longer be able to trek it up Uluru when the iconic natural landform closes to climbers from Saturday. 

The ban is being put in place because traditional landowners see it as a sacred site and have said it is disrespectful to climb it.

Opponents to the ban have argued it is within their right to climb the rock.

In the last couple of weeks, there have been hoards of tourists flocking to climb it one last time.

Rita Panahi tells Steve Price she disagrees with the ban.

“I just can’t believe how this has been mishandled.

“This is an area that is in desperate need of tourism dollars and yet we are encouraging people to go elsewhere.

“I just find the whole thing absurd.”
