Deputy leader of the Opposition Sussan Ley joined Peter Fegan on Brisbane Live to discuss fears that the proposed Voice to Parliament could affect Australia Day.

Indigenous Affairs Minister Linda Burney denied claims on Thursday that if the Voice referendum passed, it would affect Australia Day.

However, deputy leader of the Opposition Sussan Ley told Peter Fegan on Brisbane Live that the proposed Voice will “speak to all parts of government, across every agency and what appears to be unlimited scope”.

Ms Ley argued that this meant the minister could not rule out the Voice’s potential power to change the national day.

The deputy Opposition leader said that the concerns were about the relationship the Voice, once enshrined in the Constitution, would have with every single governmental body.

“We just want the Prime Minister to deal with those questions and provide the information that people are asking for”, Ms Ley told Peter Fegan.
