The entire Brisbane CityCat fleet is expected to be out of action for three months, after extensive damage to the network.

Two CityCats broke their moorings overnight, one which ended up sinking.

Brisbane City Council’s chairman of transport, Ryan Murphy, said there was extensive debris at the terminals and damage as a result of the huge deluge and floods.

“At the moment it looks like we have only lost one CityCat, but there is extensive damage to the terminal network, and a number of other vessels that were in the river we are yet to make damage assessments on,” Cr Murphy said on 4BC Drive.

“It does look like the city’s CityCat network will be out of action for probably up to three months, maybe longer, depending on repairs.”

Acting CEO of Queensland Rail, said there were more than a dozen locations on the network that had experienced landslips, sinkholes and so on, the whole “suite of damage”.

He told Scott Emerson it was difficult to answer when train services will resume.

“A re-start date is not possible to indicate at the moment.”
