The state government has clarified confusion around the latest COVID-19 wave in Queensland, as authorities issue a reminder for people to stay home if they have symptoms this Christmas.

Hospitalisations and deaths have dropped over the past week, with 15,325 cases reported today, compared to 16,600 last week.

Deputy Premier Steven Miles this morning was asked about the forecast for the latest COVID wave at a press conference.

“So I understand the Chief Health Officer expects the current wave to peak roughly next week,” he said.

But in a statement later in the day, Queensland Health reported COVID-10 cases are dipping, and the peak of the fourth wave had passed.

“While our COVID-19 traffic light will remain on amber through the Christmas and New Year period, I am confident we will return to green early in 2023,” CHO Dr John Gerrard said.
