Chris heads to Dublin to kick off the search to find his ancestors
Chris Smith is embarking on a journey to discover his ancestors.
His great-grandfather came to Australia from Ireland.
“I don’t know whether he’s got brother or sisters here.
“I don’t know where I can find any cousins. I’ve got no idea,” he says.
To help, Chris enlists Tom Quinlan from the National Archives of Ireland in Dublin to point him in the right direction.
He tells Chris “Australians are much better informed about their ancestry, and that’s because of the way in which Australians arriving were documented”.
“You’ve got their names, you’ve got their time of arrival and a place in Ireland.”
