One of the Lions’ best players has been subjected to racist attacks online, the club’s boss has revealed.

The club says “vile, racist remarks” were directed at Charlie Cameron over the weekend after he kicked six goals in the Lions’ game against Collingwood last Thursday.

Brisbane Lions CEO Greg Swann said he was “angry and disappointed” about the incident and called for a strong stance to be taken against those who level abuse at players.

9News sport reporter Matt Tsimpikas told Luke Bradnam it’s becoming an issue throughout the code.

“Greg Swann is calling on the AFL for some tougher [measures],” he said. “It’s a really difficult situation, online and on social media.

“Where they go to from here is still up in the air.”
