‘Can’t happen soon enough’: Push for infrastructure planning before 2032 Games

Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner says it’s time to establish the authority that will be responsible for the development of the infrastructure projects ahead of the Brisbane 2032 Games.
He was asked about the horrific 15-car pile-up on the Pacific Motorway yesterday, which caused traffic chaos.
He stopped short of agreeing the M1 needs to be duplicated as south-east Queensland’s population swells.
“Our major corridors, particularly during those peak times are straining with the capacity of the traffic and the growth that is happening around south-east Queensland,” he told Scott Emerson.
But he did say it was time to establish the Olympic coordination authority which will plan and roll out the critical infrastructure projects in the next 10 years.
It includes the transport projects and “improvements”.
“We need to get an entity up and running that will start rolling out and planning the infrastructure that needs to be delivered as part of that, that’s the next step and we are keen for that to happen.
“It can’t happen soon enough.”
