A devoted Cameron Smith says he was star struck and left without words after an incredible gesture by the golfing great.

Standing in the crowd watching Smith, his favourite golfer, during the third round of last week’s St Jude Classic, golf fan Blake Jaros found himself in the way of an errant ball.

He heard a loud bang, and it was the ball hitting his phone and hand.

“My thumb was throbbing, and my phone was cracked!” he told Neil Breen from Memphis.

He said he wasn’t worried about his phone, but was keen to have a chat with Cameron Smith and jokingly alerted him to the smashed up old iPhone.

Smith apologised, handing Jaros a signed glove and promised to buy him a new phone.

“I was really just star struck.”

Today, a new phone arrived on his doorstep.

“It just shows what kind of guy Cam is, and why he’s liked so much.”

He said he’ll “remember it forever” after an incredible weekend and story to tell about a genuine sporting star!
