There are calls to monitor all forms of hate crimes which would lead to a national database, after the Christchurch shootings.

Experts suggest online data should be captured and stored in an effort to manage hate crimes around the nation.

Former NSW Deputy Police Commissioner Nick Kaldas tells John Stanley “if you can’t measure it you can’t really manage it.”

“I don’t think the public should underestimate the magnitude of the task the police face in trying to detect and monitor all sorts of threats.

“It’s almost impossible to try and keep a tab on everything.”

Mr Kaldas says, internationally, authorities need to monitor right-wing extremism.

“The right-wing has sort of come second and probably is not getting the attention it deserves. That area of threat is blooming.

“Law enforcement and the intelligence community should be paying more attention in that space.”
