Brisbane’s second team: How the Dolphins plan to lure fans
Dolphins boss Terry Reader says the NRL’s newest club is looking at tapping in to the strong NRL fan base in greater Brisbane, when the club joins the competition officially in 2023.
He says they’re not looking to replicate the Broncos and their success.
“We are coming into a market where rugby league is the number one sport in our state, and what a great opportunity for the game but also for us,” he told Peter Fegan, filling in for Scott Emerson on 4BC Drive.
He says they’ve been “bowled over” by the corporate support as well as from prospective fans.
“We are not looking at coming in to be the Broncos, they are the most supported team in the NRL, but like we said before, imagine Victoria if they only had Collingwood, and then they decided to put in another team, that’s what’s coming.
“Not everyone is a Broncos fan … there’s a lot to be excited about.”
He also addressed the club talking to Cameron Munster.

On the contentious bid to secure Kalyn Ponga and other top-line players, he says people should be excited for what’s to come next year.
“There’s a lot of things going on in the background, a lot of stuff happening.”
He says there are negotiations going on behind the scenes, some which are “delicate” including interstate players.
“The majority of people you are looking at are probably going to move state, move their family so things don’t happen quickly and we’re being patient so if we have to wait 12 months to get the right [;ayer or get the player we want, we will.”
