The Wesley Hospital has expanded the state’s first long COVID clinic to the general public as demand soars for specialised care. 

The multi-disciplinary clinic, which opened in July, has only been available to patients treated for COVID-19 at The Wesley Hospital.

But the clinic is now taking referrals from GPS and will begin seeing more patients from January 2023.

Outpatient Rehabilitation Lead Matt Green told Sofie Formica it can be tough to even diagnose the condition.

“It’s a tricky one because it is essentially a condition of exclusion,” he said. “We need to make sure we’ve excluded everything else.

“That’s where the GPs and the specialists are the best source in quantifying whether it is long COVID or not.”
