Brisbane teen crowned ‘class clown’ at Melbourne Comedy Festival

Bill McDonald

A Brisbane teen has won a coveted title at Melbourne’s International Comedy Festival, kick-starting her comedy career.

Kate Kindleysides first picked up the microphone for the annual Class Clowns program and went on to win the national final last week.

The 16-year-old told Bill McDonald she first tried her act out at the Brisbane heat.

“That was really nerve-wracking,” she said.

“I’ve been watching quite a lot on YouTube and things and for quite a few years of just watching it and following it, one day I realised, ‘Hey, maybe that’s something I can give a go’!”
