Donald Trump will be indicted by a grand jury in New York, the first time in US history that a current or former president has faced a criminal charge. 

While the specific charges have not been made public, the Manhattan jury is examining Mr Trump’s involvement in a hush money payment to adult film star Stormy Daniels during his 2016 campaign.

US correspondent Jonathan Kearsley told 4BC Breakfast the former president has responded “exactly as you would expect”.

“He’s accusing Democrats of basically being out to get him,” Jono said. “He’s used this and the circus around this discussion about whether or not he would be indicted to campaign.

“But now comes the serious part.”
